Mark Paganelli serves as the University of Tennessee treasurer. He was approved by the Board of Trustees in February 2020. Paganelli began serving in the role on an interim appointment, following the retirement of James R. (Ron) Maples in 2019. The treasurer reports to the University’s chief financial officer.

Paganelli joined the University in May 1992 as an auditor with the Internal Audit Department. In 1999, he was promoted to the executive director of the department and held that role until 2010, when he joined the University’s Treasurer’s Office as the executive director for administration and finance. He was promoted to associate vice president for financial administration in July 2018 with oversight of the University’s payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, licensing and risk management offices.

Prior to joining the University, Mr. Paganelli worked six years for the State of Tennessee Comptroller’s Office where he supervised the investigative section for the Division of State Audit. He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of North Alabama and a master’s in business administration from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). He was also a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps Reserves.
