I am honored to have been chosen president of the University of Tennessee. Since my wife Deb and I moved to Tennessee in 2006, I have gained great respect, appreciation and admiration for the role the University of Tennessee has in serving the state, the nation and the world.
The University of Tennessee is comprised of five campuses, the statewide Institute of Agriculture and Institute for Public Service. Each component has its own distinctions that act in favor of the entire University. Our presence in each of Tennessee's 95 counties means UT truly is a statewide campus.
I believe it is important for the president to create an atmosphere that inspires people and values integrity, ingenuity, leadership, performance, partnerships and effective communication. As president, I strive to be accessible to faculty, staff, students, alumni, friends and the public. I am accountable to all these constituencies and the people of this state for which the University exists to serve.
The University of Tennessee has persevered and achieved much since its founding in 1794. As I look to the future, whether in harsh economic times or in more fruitful days, the University of Tennessee is destined for greater accomplishments and success because of its strong commitment to education, discovery and connectivity.
I encourage you to explore our campus and institute websites and share your input and comments by using UTALK. You may also like me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter.
Sincerely,
Joseph A. DiPietro
