47 people disagreed with not having December 24th as part of the holiday closings.
The winter holiday schedule was determined through employee feedback acquired from campus human resource officers, staff councils and campus leadership teams. Those groups reported that employees preferred consecutive authorized closing days, through January 1, leaving December 24 scheduled as a work day.
We realize that there will be many family and personal commitments on December 24. Supervisors and department heads are encouraged to be flexible in allowing employees the opportunity to use annual leave. Employees who are displeased with the 2009 winter holiday closings also are encouraged to voice those concerns to their campus staff councils. Those councils serve as the voice of UT employees.
A few people commented on terminology relative to religious holidays.
This always has been a difficult area. However, holiday terminology is part of a university policy developed with broad input from staff and faculty. The policy is intended to be inclusive of all employees, regardless of religious affiliation.
