Catherine Mizell was named University of Tennessee vice president and general counsel in 2000.
In this position, she is the chief legal officer of the UT System, responsible for providing all legal advice and representation for the Board of Trustees and the university-wide system. She also is secretary of the university, serving as the principal staff liaison for the Board of Trustees.
Mizell joined UT in 1976. From 1980 to 1984, she was general counsel and secretary for the Tennessee Board of Regents system. She returned to the UT staff in 1984 and has served continuously since then.
She holds the B.A. and J.D. degrees from UT and lives in Knoxville. She is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys.
