Dr. Mary Jinks

Dr. Mary Jinks became University of Tennessee vice president of public service on March 7, 2008.

Jinks has been with the University for 28 years, with more than 25 years at the statewide UT Institute for Public Service. In the role of vice president, Jinks is responsible for leading and managing the operations of the institute. She has formerly served as associate vice president and director of operations for IPS, and as assistant director of the former IPS Center for Government Training.

In 2007, Jinks received the Economic Excellence and Equity Award from the Tennessee Economic Council on Women, which distinguishes those who have made a commitment to improving the lives of women. She is involved in numerous public service activities outside the University, including serving as past president of the Southern Consortium of University-based Public Service Organizations, a national council member representing the Southeast for the American Society for Public Administration, and chair of the Southeast Conference for Public Administration.

Jinks is a graduate of UT Knoxville with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in public administration. She has an educational doctorate from UT in higher education administration.
