Office of the President

Linda Hendricks named UT Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer

March 18, 2008

I am pleased to announce that Linda Hendricks has been named vice president and chief human resources officer for the University of Tennessee. The appointment is effective May 19, 2008.

Linda is a native of Tennessee, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and began her career in human resources at the flagship campus, as well. She has more than 30 years’ experience in higher education including as former assistant vice president and director of human resource programs at Duke University and Vanderbilt University.

She is a founding member of the Kelly Services Inc. Higher Education Advisory Panel and a graduate of Vanderbilt’s Leadership Development Forum and UT Knoxville’s Basics of Personnel Administration in Colleges and Universities. She holds certifications in Disney’s Service Leaders Institute, consulting skills, negotiating and administering the labor contract, employee relation’s law and facilitative leadership.

Her record of accomplishments include development of Duke’s first workforce strategic plan, development of award-winning management and leadership development programs and serving on the University Diversity Leadership senior teams at both Duke and Vanderbilt. She also has served on implementation teams for a variety of HR information systems including PeopleSoft, SAP and Kenexa performance management, and for applicant tracking systems including Resumix, Recruiting Solutions and BrassRing.

Linda’s focus will be on continuing momentum in improving programs, training, and compensation for University employees. She will work closely with our human resources leadership across the statewide system to link University strategies and policies to faculty and staff.

For some time, our human resources leadership throughout the University has embraced the goal of an enhanced human resources function. I applaud and fully support this goal and the progress that team already has made in recent years in elevating the human resources role. I believe we have a strategic opportunity to set our vision even higher with Linda’s selection as Chief Human Resources Officer.

Across the statewide University of Tennessee, our people are the key to our success. Having a highly successful and innovative human resources team is critical to ensuring we attract and retain outstanding employees. I believe Linda is an exceptionally qualified individual more than capable of fulfilling the job responsibilities of this system-wide position, and I look forward to welcoming her back to our institution.
