New Pathways Ensure Transfer between Community Colleges and Universities

August 22, 2011

Today we are announcing the creation of 50 transfer pathways ensuring
students' ability to make timely and cost-effective transitions from
community colleges in Tennessee to our campuses in Chattanooga, Knoxville
and Martin.

This is among the most important achievements in recent years to increase
the number of Tennesseans with four-year degrees.

I'm grateful to more than 80 faculty members from our campuses for their
collaboration with Tennessee Board of Regents colleagues over the past 12
months to create the transfer pathways. Their work made this achievement
possible.

Now, every student entering a community college in Tennessee can select
one of 50 majors with accompanying transfer pathways, complete required
courses, earn an associate's degree and transition seamlessly as a junior
at a Tennessee public university.

All earned credit hours will apply toward a bachelor's degree in the same
discipline. The pathways also guarantee admission to all public
universities in the state, except for UT Knoxville due to its competitive
admission standards.

Last fall, more than 1,200 students transferred from TBR's 13 community
colleges to our three undergraduate campuses. These new academic oadmaps
have the potential to significantly increase the number of transfer
students we see and to ensure students do not waste time or money in the
process.

More information about the program and a listing of all 50 transfer
pathways is available at: www.tntransferpathway.org/.

Outreach efforts are planned to ensure ongoing communication with faculty
members, students, high school guidance counselors, parents and community
members.

I also encourage you to share news of the pathways with your family and
friends.

Thank you for all you to do for the University.

All the best,
Joe
