Re: Effectiveness and Efficiency Efforts Result in $45.8 Million Savings

Thank you for your efforts to identify and implement effectiveness and efficiency initiatives to address our funding challenges.  I am proud to tell you these efforts have the potential to save UT $45.8 million.

News of the savings was shared this morning in a meeting of the UT Board of Trustees' Committee on Effectiveness and Efficiency for the Future, and I want to also let you know about the tremendous results.

This initiative's success is because of your commitment and insight. Several of the adopted effectiveness and efficiency measures came from your more than 800 suggestions.

Our challenge is to use resources as effectively and efficiently as possible. While these initiatives will not offset the effects of the end of federal stimulus funding the University faces on July 1, they provide critical savings and have helped the University focus our budget on what is most important, providing the highest quality education in our state.

I encourage you to review the list of 117 initiatives underway by visiting http://bot.tennessee.edu/committees/eef/index.html. The list is located under the heading Measures and Actions.

Implementation of 92 percent of the initiatives is complete or in progress.

I appreciate that you continue to send in e-mails and suggestions via UTALK and through your campuses.  This is an ongoing process and your feedback is important. I also appreciate your good work for the University of Tennessee.

All the best.
